Our Youth Science Summits aim to expose middle and high school students to careers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Art, Engineering, and Math) by connecting them with professionals in a variety of fields.
This summit will feature the following presenters, who will discuss their career path and current work, and answer live questions from participants:
- Dr. Harshini Mukundan (Los Alamos, NM), from Los Alamos National Laboratory, is a biologist working on diagnostic tools that can identify any infection.
- Dr. Joel Karpiak (Philadelphia, PA), from GlaxoSmithKline, is a biochemist using computer algorithms to develop new drugs to combat a variety of illnesses.
- Heather Ferrer (Boston, MA), from Partners in Health, analyzes data to help inform the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 contact tracing program.
- Lekha Devara and Onu Udoh (Louisville, KY) are medical students using their knowledge to address health disparities through their group Grow502.
The event will also feature the story of a local rookie Battlebot team that made it onto a Discovery+ TV show, as well as a panel with University of Louisville graduate students participating in the “3-Minute-Thesis” competition.
