Young Women LEAD invites high school girls to attend this year’s Young Women LEAD Conference hosted at Ashland Community and Technical College
The YWL conference is for girls and focuses on Leadership, Education and Development (LEAD). The all-day conference features interactive breakout sessions, keynote speakers and lunch. The conference is free to all participants, and more than 800 students are expected to attend.
In addition to the keynote address from Kate Gladdin, students can choose between interactive discussion panels and breakout sessions. The sessions teach important skills needed to be successful in the workforce and ways to develop their leadership potential.
All attendees will have the opportunity to send a postcard to space with Blue Origin’s Club for the Future. Each attendee will receive a postcard that Club for the Future will launch into space and back on a New Shepard rocket and return to you stamped “Flown to Space.”

- Registration will open September 5. To register, please contact Chrisha – chrisha@youngwomenlead.com.
- Registration is first-come, first-served and limited to the first 350 students each day.
- Registration is FREE.
- Lunch will be provided from Penn Station. If you have food allergies or sensitivities, please consider bringing your own lunch.
- All attendees must have a Liability Waiver to attend the event. No one will be permitted to attend the event without a signed waiver.
Breakout Sessions:
Students have the choice to attend a variety of interactive discussion panels and breakout sessions. These breakouts will be delivered by various successful women that represent a variety of careers and personal choices. These women are experts on issues that high school girls are currently facing. The sessions will teach important skills needed to be successful in the workforce, STEM and ways to develop their leadership potential.
- Drive Your Career – Paige Weaver and Kalese Howard, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Join us for this interactive panel of Toyota women who have successfully navigated careers in STEM while also having hobbies like racing high speed boats. You can drive your career in ways only you can imagine.
- Momprenuers: The Delicate Balance of Owning a Business and Raising a Family – Megan Smedley and Paige Minnehan, Owners of ConnectED Consulting of Kentucky, LLC/Creative City, LLC Megan and Paige are both business owners in the Ashland region, as well as wives and mothers. In this session, they will share the secrets, successes, and struggles that go along with building a business while juggling life with young children. Who says you can’t do it all? Definitely not Megan and Paige!
- GET EMPOWERED Self-Defense Workshop – Cara Clark, Co-Owner & Business Manager of Phil Clark’s Martial Arts Academy, and 2nd Degree Black Belt Get EMPOWERED & gain CONFIDENCE while learning to protect yourself. You will come away with basic self-defense techniques and situational awareness tips. This is a hands-on workshop in a fun, relaxed environment.
- Empowering Your Financial Freedom – Kendall McConnell – Marketing Officer and Journey Jordan – Loan Officer, Kentucky Farmers Bank Together we will understand our financial power, set financial goals, learn how to manage our money, and create a path for financial success. After this session, you will be a pro when it comes to your banking knowledge and financial preparedness to empower your financial freedom.
- What’s Your Green Dot? – Tabitha Riffe, Prevention Educator, Pathways Porchlight SARC Power-based personal violence-things like bullying, stalking, dating violence, and sexual assault-can be difficult to talk about, but intervening in these situations? Sometimes that can feel impossible. Green Dot is a program that empowers students to start that conversation and intervene with strategies that feel realistic and comfortable for them as individuals. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something-what’s your Green Dot?
- New Worth Millionaire – Lauren Meadows, Real Estate Investor, SkyOx Homes Do you want to be a millionaire one day? We will discuss the mindset, discipline and tactics that can be implemented in your younger years so you can live a financially secure life for years to come.
- Women In Industry Panel: Finding Flexibility – Amber Hudson, Sarah Smith, Elona Dunaway, Megan Celedonia, Megan Champlin, Marathon Petroleum Company Do you ever feel overwhelmed trying to have it all? The pursuit of work/life balance can feel like a juggling act. In this session, several women share their experiences of working in the refining industry and finding flexibility in their respective careers. They’ll share four tips to help you learn to be flexible, too!
- STEM Barbie in a Ken World – Kathryn Roberts, GSE & Tooling Engineer Kathryn will show that girls can be whatever they want, anything is possible. She will share her career story to inspire girls that they can do anything, including working for some very prominent leaders in entertainment and technology. And yes, it is ok to own pink tools and a pink hard hat!
- You Can Be a Healthcare Star, No Matter Who You Are – Bethany Pemberton MSN, RN and the KDMC Learning Team, King’s Daughters Medical Center Are you considering a career in healthcare, but don’t know what role is for you? This interactive session will have you working on SIM patients, performing ultrasounds, and even in the operating room! You will also learn about volunteer programs available to you. Find your dream and get invested!
- Apprenticeship: A Journey to Succes – Hope Harp, Outreach Specialist, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters Classrooms are not the only way to find success and a college degree. The women of the past have paved the way for young women wanting to serve today. Heather and her team are here to show you that you have what it takes! She’ll talk about goal reaching, military education, training, and equipment, and the increased roles of women in the military.
