Building Safe Online Spaces Together
04/01/22 - 04/30/22
Sexual Assault Awareness Month, observed each April, aims to increase awareness about the causes and risk factors for sexual assault and empower individuals to take steps to prevent it in their communities. The National Sexual Violence Research Center coordinates programming, materials and resources to spread the message of awareness and prevention.
Sexual harassment, assault, and abuse can happen anywhere, including in online spaces. For too long harassment, cyberbullying, and sexual abuse and exploitation have come to be expected as typical and unavoidable behaviors online. This year’s theme – Building Safe Online Spaces Together – is possible when we practice digital consent, intervene when we see harmful content and behaviors, and promote online communities that value respect, inclusion, and safety.
